bySimon Berney-Edwards

Kathryn Britten has been awarded Honorary Fellowship of the EWI at the Sir Michael Davies Lecture on the 15th October.

Honorary Fellowship

Honorary Fellowship is the highest recognition that EWI can give to a person of eminence who has rendered exceptional services to the expert witness community.

It can sometimes be awarded to members of the community as a reflection of the respect and regard of their colleagues for a particularly important contribution over a long period of time.

Kathryn Britten

Kathryn is a Chartered Accountant with more than 45 years experience in the profession serving as both an audit partner and a forensic accounting partner.  She has provided dispute resolution services in complex commercial situations for 30 years. She has carried out many accounting investigations, provided pre-action and ongoing advice and support in litigation and international arbitration, and acted as an independent expert witness. She has also acted as an adviser and determiner in many expert determinations following transaction disputes.

Kathryn has extensive experience in high-profile and sensitive, international cases and is one of the United Kingdom’s most senior forensic accountants and expert witnesses, having written hundreds of reports and given oral evidence on many occasions, in various fora.  Her industry experience is extremely wide and includes industrials, hospitality, shipping, airlines, travel, natural resources, financial services, retail, TMT, pharmaceutical, and professional services.

Kathryn is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, Member of the Expert Witness Institute, and a Fellow of the Academy of Experts. She is a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and sits on the Advisory Board of the London Chamber of Arbitration and Mediation

Kathryn is passionate about helping female expert witnesses and aspiring experts to reach their full potential.

In 2022 she co-founded the Equal Representation for Expert Witnesses Pledge https://www.expertwitnesspledge.com/about-us, which aims to drive commitment to improve the visibility and representation of women as expert witnesses. As a result of this work she has secured a commitment from 1700 organisations and individuals who have signed the pledge to state their support for the equal representation of women in the Expert Witness workforce. She Chairs the pledge Global Steering Committee and the Pledge Executive Committee and has been responsible for two pieces of research looking at the gender balance of experts worldwide. She has enthused expert witnesses globally to create regional groups and to run workshops and networking events promoting the importance of the pledge.
